5 Popular Interior Décor Trends To Look Out For In 2023

Art Deco Resurrected
Characterised by rich colours, bold geometry and decadent detail, Art Deco reached the height of its popularity in the ‘20s, ‘30s & ‘40s. It was a style that reflected Old Hollywood glamour, using metallics and jewel tones in rather indulgent ways. While we don’t believe it will return to the height of its opulent style, it is undoubtedly making a comeback, as homeowners and interior decorators use it to strategically add a touch of luxury to modern settings.
Sprinkle in some of that glamour in your own home through the use of gilded mirrors, geometric carpets, and rich shades like royal purples, velvety indigos and ink greens.
As with any good design and décor revamp, the key is to always plan ahead.
Visually Stunning Lounges
If we’ve learned anything from all the years of Keeping up with the Kardashians (and countless other celebrities), it’s that you can still look utterly glamorous while lounging and relaxing at home. While that luxury pair of sweatpants might have something to do with it, we certainly can’t discount the impact of an insta-worthy lounge area as well.
Comfort may still be king, but the fact is, homeowners are investing time and money into creating lounge and living areas that are truly visually stunning. From investing in a beautiful and well-made couch to deliberate use of paintings and décor, we’re ensuring that our living areas are made for entertaining. This may be the result of a somewhat solitary existence in the last couple of years, but homeowners now seem ready and willing to have their homes seen, and appreciated!
Renaissance Resurgence
Renaissance Décor originated during a period of social and cultural development that began in Western Europe, in the 15th century. Italian renaissance and English renaissance styles had significant differences – but modern adaptations of this interior décor style has certainly made use of both. The focus of this style is in its deliberate use of artisanal pieces, wood with detailed carvings, period paintings, and soft, decadent materials.
Despite being quite different on the surface, renaissance and art deco styles can actually mesh together quite well due to their shared focus on opulent materials. When pieces from each are used with deliberate thought, homeowners could be gifted with a personal interior décor style that speaks to both great comfort, and elegance.
Fashionable Home offices
The rise of home offices were most definitely a result of the restrictions of the last couple of years. With many forced to work at home, creating a space for working (as well as ensuring separation from work at the end of the day) was a necessity. However, now with remote working and hybrid working options becoming the norm, the home office could quite possibly become a permanent fixture in most homes. This has shifted the priorities of many homeowners: from seeing this space as purely functional, to an opportunity to make a design statement.
Think of a well-built table, a stylish office chair, multiple points for lighting, and even a smaller area to lounge – where one could read a book and have a cup of coffee between meetings. The possibilities are endless, and homeowners are just beginning to scratch the surface.
Deliberate Happy Places
Mental health has been an evolving conversation for many of us over the last couple of years, and it shows no signs of slowing down. In interior design, a big part of mental health is about having a space to unwind and spend time on activities that mean something to us on a personal level.
A continuing trend from 2022, happy places are likely to be taken up a notch in the coming year: the use of space to create outdoor or indoor gardens, areas for yoga and meditation, painting, reading, or spending time with other people – is high on the list of priorities for many homeowners. While many put spaces together haphazardly in the last couple of years, 2023 gives us the time to be a bit more deliberate, and create a space that is truly our happy place.
