What is Your Personal Style?

May 4, 2020 | Inspiration | 0 comments

The interior design trends that we will be seeing more of in 2020, is that anything goes! That being said, your home will allow you to make the off trend, on trend! Personalise your space, with your chosen colours and accessories to make it your trend. While the signature looks of 2019 such as accent walls and all-white kitchens won’t be going away entirely, they will certainly be getting a fresh new look in the coming years.

For those looking to make their home more personalised, the first step is to determine your style. Usually, the common thought is to make it homely. That being said, choosing items of furniture or accessories that would achieve the look, would often mean that it could be within the whole house, a few rooms, or even just a small area of a room.

Layering

A cheap, quick and effective way to make a home feel warm and homely is to use layers on soft furnishings. Accessorise your chosen space with beautiful throws and pillows of different shapes and sizes to add some interest to the space. For other areas of the home, layer different textures or accessories in parts of the home – but remember stay away from the clutter!

Create Homely Nooks

Bare and unused spaces can look harsh and lonely. All you need to brighten up an empty corner is a carefully selected piece of furniture, artwork for a wall or perhaps the simplicity of a candle on a shelf. Within the kitchen, you could co-ordinate your plates and bowls with the colours on the walls. In other parts of your home, a carefully curated book shelf or even a pantry clearly labelled with herbs and spices in your own typography.

Close Off Larger Spaces

Sometimes interior designers are set with the challenge of creating homely spaces when presented with huge, sprawling rooms, and at first glance this can look like a bit of a challenge. Pocket doors are a great way to divide these five spaces, making them much homelier and more liveable. Furniture can also be used to divide a large space into several smaller spaces, such as sofas being used to close off a corner of a room, or room partitions being used effectively. All of these options will give off the impression that the room is not large and uninviting, but instead made up of a series of smaller spaces.

Utilise Natural Finishes

When used in the home, natural finishes automatically give off a warm and calming feeling, meaning that they are the perfect material to use in a personalised way to style your home in the way you feel represents home to you. Try to include in-door plants or buy yourself some flowers a few times a month – to bring the outdoors in. Use warm woods in a variety of shades and textures, or simply bring natural accessories in to your kitchen or dining space. Just because you are using natural materials, you can still keep a modern look by making use of natural lines and minimalist furnishings.

Light a Candle

Nothing else can personalise a space better than smell. Either light a few candles, or burn an incense stick if you prefer a slightly stronger, smokier smell. Be sure to use room sprays, or oil diffusers to personalise the smell in your home or a particular room. The smell of your home will not only represent you, but provide calmness and a sense of subconscious security. Fill your room with a warm glow, an effortless focal point in a room.
