Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I studied Art & Design, Surface Design, and Printed Textiles in school. Following which, I worked for Laura Ashley as an Interior designer for 3 years. I then moved over to Wickes as a Design Consultant, and never left!

We would love to hear about your home.

I live with my partner Harrison and my daughter Bella. The bungalow we live in belonged to my Nan and Grandad. My mother and I lived with them while I was growing up, so it’s always been home. I’ve owned the bungalow for about 8 years now, and it has great sentimental value to me. My grandparents never renovated, because they preferred to live life to the fullest, and spend their savings on holidays! Of course, now there’s plenty of opportunity for renovations and stylistic changes around the house.

So, you are a kitchen designer… Tell us about your job, and the kind of projects you work on.

I have been a Kitchen and Bathroom design consultant for the last 10 years at Wickes.  I truly adore my job because there’s nothing I like more than to inspire and help others. I always aim to build a rapport with my customers so that they can feel at ease enough around me to be able to express their needs, and trust me to design their space in a way that’s going to transform their lifestyle. I like to listen and visualise what their dream kitchen would look like if money was no object. Currently I mostly work on kitchen and bathroom projects. These could be either full renovations or extensions.

What inspired you to Instagram your home renovation?

I enjoyed showing people ideas and useful tips for home renovations and interior decor, especially during the pandemic. It was a great way to keep a positive mindset and inspire people at the same time. Everyone is going through a hard time right now, so if the account offers some joy to others, I am more than happy to keep doing it!

You simply cannot go wrong with AluSplash.  It’s good value, easy cleaning, and more hygienic than tiles.

Can you tell us about your interior style?

 I like a comfy look to a room. A place with plenty of blankets, cushions, and comfortable rugs. I believe your space has to be somewhere where you can truly relax after a hard day’s work.

What has been your favourite home purchase?

I’m 33 years old and never had a TV for my bedroom! We just bought one, and it is definitely my new favourite purchase. My partner and I always said no watching TV in the bedroom, but we switch to YouTube in the evenings now, for some soothing, relaxing music, and home meditation videos. It definitely helps with the stress relief!

Why did you choose AluSplash for your new kitchen renovation?

After receiving tons of positive feedback over the years from customers who had AluSplash installed, I knew I had to have it in my new kitchen.  We chose a white gloss splashback in Ice White, to go with our white Quartz worktops, on top of which I could bring in some bold colour with my accessories and flowers.  You simply cannot go wrong with the product.  It’s good value, easy cleaning, and more hygienic than tiles. Let’s face it, no one likes cleaning grout! It’s perfect for those messy cooks out there, like me!

And what would be your favourite space at home right now?

That would have to be my new kitchen. I can’t stop cleaning it! That must be a good thing, right?

Do you have any tips for people who are looking to hire an interior designer?

The best way to get the most out of your allocated designer is to have a home visit so that they can measure the space. However, during these difficult times that may not always be possible. At Wickes, we have a fantastic virtual service where we can guide you in taking the measurements over a video call.  It also greatly helps to see your existing kitchen layout as it helps us see what physical changes are required.
We can come up with new ideas that will not only improve the functionality of the room, but can also help with savvy storage solutions. I hear the phrase ”I don’t think you can design it any other way” far too often, but this is very rarely the case! You just need someone with a good eye, and some interior inspiration. And that’s exactly what I’m here for!

What brands or trends inspire your designs?

 Growing up, my Dad liked the house to be decorated neutrally. My interior style now is often far more daring and dramatic. I love dark colours and bold wallpapers. I personally like to keep adding to the decor and layer it as I go, to create a more interesting space. I am a plant lover too, my kitchen is full of them! I feel like plants really warm up a room, and they bring me joy when it’s gloomy outside.

Let’s talk about more recent changes. Did you make any improvements to your home during the lockdown period?

We used the time during lockdown to finish some things around the house. We were constantly ordering click and collect items from Wickes for the garden as we had great weather for it. There was a lot of investment in planting, painting, and making the most out of our outdoor space.  We even made a chalkboard wall in the garden to make home learning more fun and motivational for my 6-year-old daughter.  Keeping busy over the summer months helped keep us a lot more positive.

What item could you not live without in your home?

That would have to be a kettle! We are massive drinkers of tea and coffee. The kettle is always hot in our home.

Do you have an interior wish list?

I would love to start a summer house in the garden this year when it starts warming up.

Could you list 3 Instagram accounts that inspire you the most for your renovations?

 The Instagram accounts that I always find myself scrolling through are:
@Kitchens_of_insta
@bathrooms_of_insta
@wickes

Finally, please list your social accounts for others to follow your work!

@lana_boddington
@wickes.kitchens.kettering

Thanks so much for chatting with us Lana! Good luck with future renovations, and keep sharing your wonderful design inspirations with us!
